Background

It is essential that the 2020 Census obtain a complete and accurate count of South Carolina’s population because the resulting figures will be used to reapportion seats in the U.S. House of Representatives, and determine the amount of funding that state governments and local communities receive from the federal government for health, education, housing, and infrastructure programs.

To ensure Greenville County gets a complete count for the 2020 Census, a coalition of local partners organized to form the Greenville County Complete Count Coalition. This effort coordinates the work of nonprofit organizations, municipalities, grassroots and community-based organizations, and philanthropic organizations.  The Coalition is particularly focused on reaching traditionally “hard-to-count” populations such as people of color, children under the age of five, rural residents, and non-native English speakers who often benefit most from allocated resources.

Hollingsworth Funds’ Involvement

Because an accurate and complete census is vital to improving economic mobility, Hollingsworth Funds staff serve as members of the Greenville County District 4 Census Coalition, utilizing our resources to encourage and maximize participation in our area. Additionally, Hollingsworth Funds has provided operating support, alongside other community partners, to ensure that the Coalition has the capacity to be effective.
